Lorelle has news that older versions of WordPress are being attacked. Symptoms include: odd additions to permalinks - "eval" and "base64_decode". Your blog's permalinks will no longer work. a new administrator account, perhaps named Administrator (2), created but not by you. This can happen even if registration is turned off on your blog. This post is about moving a self-hosted WordPress blog from one web host to another. If you're wanting to move from WordPress.com to self-hosted WordPress, that's a very much easier process, which will be covered in the next post. Following on from a previous post on how to make author profile pages for WordPress, Jabril and a couple of others asked how to make a page listing all the authors of a blog, with bio information and a photo. Here's how to do that. Some things before we start: You'll need to adapt this for your own theme (probably): e.g. you might need to add get_sidebar() in the appropriate place, or... Read more

When I first saw that syntax highlighting would be available with WordPress 2.8, I thought it was a great idea. If you're using the WordPress built-in editor to amend themes or plugins on your live installation, you need to get it right first time, so having the source code display in different colours should help avoid mistakes, right? Except it turns out - frankly - to be a complete pain.... Read more

photo credit: Hamed SaberIn the last few days, I've heard from a few people who've upgraded to WordPress 2.8 that they're missing some or all of the visual editor from the Add New Post page: even if the "Visual" tab is selected (not the "HTML" one), buttons are missing. People have also reported the dashboard page not loading properly. The issues seem to be reported more widely in Firefox... Read more

The release of WordPress 2.8 is "tentatively" scheduled for 10th June. It looks like the release may even happen on time, so make sure you're ready to upgrade. How to upgrade if you're running WP 2.7 or 2.7.1 If you are a good person

Sooner or later, how much you love the WordPress theme you've chosen, you're going to want to change something about it. Maybe you'll want your post titles to be a little larger, or to change fonts or link colours, or to make your sidebar wider. If you already know HTML, CSS and PHP, then head on over to the Theme Editor and start playing. But for everyone else, this post will be a brief... Read more
